How to add your products and prices

· 7 min read

Short answer: Tanet Chat takes products three ways. During setup you paste your existing price list — a Facebook post, a WhatsApp message, a typed note — and it comes back as editable rows you correct before anything is saved. After setup you add them one at a time from the Catalog tab in the dashboard. A product with sizes or colours becomes variants, each carrying its own price.

Your agent can only talk about products that are in your catalogue. Anything else — a price it half-remembers, a size it assumes you stock — it is instructed not to say. An empty catalogue is an agent that answers "dam koto?" with nothing useful.

There are three ways to fill it. The fastest takes about a minute.

Paste the price list you already have

You already have a price list somewhere: the caption of a Facebook post, a message you sent a customer last week, a note on your phone. The second of the six setup steps — "What are you selling right now?" — takes that paste directly. The box holds 8,000 characters, more than any real price list.

Paste it in, tap Read my list, wait ten seconds or so, and you get back editable rows — one name and one price each.

A real paste looks like this:

Assalamu alaikum 🌸 Notun stock ese geche!

Winter shawl - 950 tk
Pashmina shawl 1200 taka
Cotton kurti 1,450/-
Denim jacket 2200-2500 tk
Kids sweater 650
Hijab set — inbox koren
Order korte call: 01712345678
Delivery Dhaka'r vitore 60, baire 120
#winter #newstock

Five products come out of that:

RowPriceWhat happened
Winter shawl950"tk" stripped
Pashmina shawl1200"taka" stripped
Cotton kurti1450comma stripped
Denim jacket2200a range takes the lower number; the range is kept in the description
Kids sweater650plain name, plain number

The greeting, the hashtags and the phone number are skipped as not-products. Hijab set is dropped too — it names a product but gives no price, and a price is never invented for you. Type one next to it and read the list again.

Names come back in your own words, not translated or tidied up. One paste produces at most 60 products.

Check the rows before you move on

The delivery line — Delivery Dhaka'r vitore 60, baire 120 — has a name and a number on it, which is exactly what a product looks like. Lines like that can come back as a row you did not mean to create. So can "Eid offer 500 tk off".

That is what the review list is for, and it is worth thirty seconds:

  1. Prices first. A ৳1450 that came back as ৳145 is the expensive mistake, because your agent will quote it to a real customer.
  2. Extra rows. Delivery charges, offers, anything with a number that is not a thing you ship. Tap the bin icon.
  3. Missing rows. "Add one we missed" gives you a blank row to type into.

Fix rows in place rather than re-reading. Tapping Read my list again replaces the whole list, including any price you just corrected by hand.

Nothing is written to your live catalogue while you are editing. The rows are saved at the end of setup along with the rest of your answers, and if a product name already exists, its price is updated instead of a duplicate being created.

After setup, products go in one at a time

The paste box only exists inside setup. Once setup is finished, opening the setup assistant sends you to the dashboard instead. From then on it is the Catalog tab in the sidebar, then Add Product.

The drawer asks for:

There is also a Product-Specific FAQs box on this drawer. The answers your agent actually reads come from the FAQ list under Agent → FAQs in the sidebar, so put anything it must be able to say there — that list is also the first thing to check when a reply comes out wrong.

Sizes and colours are variants, not five products

Tick Multi-Variant Structure and the product's own price boxes disappear. That is deliberate: the product becomes a heading, and every price now lives on a variant.

Each variant has its own name ("Large / Blue"), price, photo and negotiation settings, and the arrows set the order they are listed in.

Use variants when the price differs by size or colour. If every size is ৳1450, one product with the sizes named in the description is simpler and the agent answers just as well.

Products that came from a pasted list never arrive with variants. Anything sold by size needs opening once afterwards.

Four price boxes, and only one of them is a wall

For a product with negotiation switched on you fill in:

FieldWhat it does
Base PriceThe price the agent quotes. It is told to state it as the price, not a starting point.
Drop Point 1Where it may go after a customer has pushed hard, more than once.
Drop Point 2The next step down.
Floor LimitThe number it must never go below.

The floor is the only one of the four that is enforced after the reply is written: if the agent tries to confirm an order below it, the order is not created and the conversation is flagged for you.

If you have Telegram connected to your dashboard, a "Floor Violation Blocked" message tells you it happened. Without it the block still works — you find out from the flagged conversation instead of from your phone.

One gap worth knowing before you rely on it: that block reads a product's own floor, and a product you split into variants no longer has one — the floors live on the variants. A variant's floor still shapes what the agent offers during bargaining, but it does not stop the order from being created. If a product is worth protecting with a hard stop, keep it as one product with one floor.

Leave both drop points blank and the ladder has two rungs — base and floor — so the only concession available is the whole distance in one jump. Filling them in gives the agent two smaller moves to try first. How much discount to give when a customer bargains covers where to put those numbers.

Leave the floor blank and there is nothing to enforce; the agent is simply told the base price is its minimum. Fill it in.

Products imported from a pasted list arrive with a base price and nothing else. Whether they are negotiable follows your answer to "Can customers bargain on price?" during setup. Open the ones worth bargaining over and set their floors.

What your agent knows about stock

Nothing, honestly. The catalogue it reads carries names, descriptions, prices, variants and whether photos exist. It does not carry a stock count — the Stock Quantity box on a variant is not part of what it sees.

So when something sells out, delete it. Delete takes the product out of the catalogue the agent reads without touching your past orders. There is no undo button in the dashboard, so you re-add it when it comes back.

How many products you get

The free plan's catalogue cap is 50 products. Starter at ৳599/month and Business at ৳3,999/month have no product cap — see what each plan includes.

Business also unlocks the API, so a shop already running stock in another system can push products and prices in programmatically instead of typing them. The endpoints are in the public API reference.

What to do this week

Common questions

What should my pasted price list look like?

One product per line with its price on the same line is easiest — "Winter shawl 950 tk". A messy paste works too. "tk", "taka", "৳" and commas are stripped automatically, and a price range like 2200-2500 is read as the lower number with the range kept in the description.

Why did some products disappear when my list was read?

A line that names a product but gives no price is dropped, because a price is never invented for you. Greetings, phone numbers, hashtags and "inbox koren" lines are skipped as well. Type a price next to the missing item and read the list again. At most 60 products come out of a single paste.

How do I add a product that comes in different sizes or colours?

Open the product and tick Multi-Variant Structure. The product's own price boxes disappear and each variant carries its own name, price, photo and negotiation settings. Do this when the price differs by size or colour. If every size costs the same, one product with the sizes named in the description is simpler.

What is the floor price and do I have to set one?

The floor is the lowest price your agent may ever agree to, and it is the only price setting enforced after the reply is written. If the agent tries to confirm an order below a product's floor, the order is not created and the conversation is flagged for you — plus a Telegram alert if you have Telegram connected. Leave it blank and there is nothing to enforce. The block reads a product's own floor, so it does not cover a floor set on a variant.

Can I add products after setup is finished?

Yes, from the Catalog tab in the dashboard, one at a time. The paste-a-price-list box lives inside setup only — once setup is complete, opening the setup assistant sends you to the dashboard instead.
